Ryhthm Rousers Percussion Ensemble First of It's Kind!
MANCHESTER, Connecticut -- July 1, 2001 -- The MusicMakers Academy will be offering an innovative and unique percussion ensemble, called Rhythm Rousers! this Winter. Rhythm Rousers is a "Stomp"-like performance group which uses tuned percussion tubes to make music. Players whack these tubes against just about any surface and boom! -- they are making and learning about music in a fun way.
Director, Paula Penna, states, "This is a first-of-it's-kind percussion ensemble. Kids of all ages can participate together and the end result will be a dynamic performance that will knock your socks off!"
The group will meet weekly starting this Winter, at The MusicMakers Academy, located at 485 Hartford Road in Manchester. No prior music experience is required. Students will explore rhythms while focusing on the concepts of beat, melody, form, and style.
The actual tubes are brightly colored, and vary in size from one to four feet in length, according to pitch. Penna states, "Kids love to play these instruments. And, the best part of it is that they learn so much about making music. Rhythm Rousers is a great supplement to music lessons of any kind, or a great introduction to performing. I wouldn't be surprised if some parents will want to join us!"
The MusicMakers Academy has been acclaimed as one of the best facilities for music education in the state. They focus on beginners of all ages, and are known for their innovative offerings. Faculty members are graduates of the top schools of music internationally, including Julliard, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, Hartt School, UConn, and Westminster Choir College.
