Private Music Lessons for All Instruments/Voice
Comprehensive Music Learning Approach
WINNER OF THE 2007 ARTS in BUSINESS and COMMUNITY AWARD from the Town of Manchester and the Manchester Arts Commission! We are considered to be one of the top 3 music schools in the Greater Hartford Region. MusicMakers uses the C.M.L. approach, developed by our company, for all private lessons programs. Our mantra is "Give a person a fish, feed him for a day; teach a person to fish, feed him for a lifetime." Our program consists of building a solid foundation in technique, theory/note-reading, history, and even composition so that our students become "independent musicians", capable of picking up music on their own and being able to play it. In addition to weekly private music lessons, our program includes student master classes, parent workshops, and plenty of opportunity to perform.
Lessons are offered on the following instruments, as available each semester:
- Piano
- Keyboard
- Organ
- Voice
- Voice/Piano combined
Other combined instrumental and voice lessons are available as well.
- Guitar
- Brass
- Violin
- Viola
- Harp
- Woodwind
- Bass Guitar
- Percussion
Private
Music Lessons in our Academy
The MusicMakers Academy,
located conveniently off of i-384 exit 2 "Keeney street", at 517 Hartford Road in Manchester, CT, is a friendly and comfortable
place of learning. With private studios, classroom space, and our own
recital space, we are able to offer our students many more services
than the average music studio. Our waiting area is pleasant, with comfortable
couches and spaces to sit. Students and siblings are welcome to do their homework or have a snack while waiting. We have free Wireless Internet Service (Wi-Fi), so feel free to bring your laptop along, too! Often times children, especially younger children, get more out of their lessons when coming to the Academy since they can "put on their music hat" and focus better in this professional atmosphere, rather than have the normal distractions of home, pets, phones, neighborhood friends, and sibling interruptions.
Private Music
Lessons in your home
MusicMakers is the only
company in the area to offer professional, private lessons in our students' homes OR in our comfortable academy. We have been successfully providing this convenient service for 10 years!
WHY should you hire a company rather than an individual? For several reasons, first and foremost being safety. We are able to screen our teachers in a much more thorough way than the average family.
WHY bring a complete stranger into your house?-- especially one who will be working with your child? It sounds crazy, but people do this all the time. By going with MusicMakers, you have the peace of mind to trust your child is in good hands, and if there are ever any concerns you have the backing of a company.
How do you know for sure that the independent teacher you hire to come into your home really has the credentials they say they do? Unfortunately, Connecticut does not have a license for private music instruction; this translates into anyone being able to say they have the degrees and experience to teach your child without ever having to back it up. At MusicMakers, we check every reference, and we know what to look for in a teacher's background to verify that they indeed are well-qualified. In fact, we go many steps further--our teachers are professional teachers with years of experience, training, and study.
PLUS! This is a great solution for today's busy families who simply cannot
get to our Academy.

Matching
you with a teacher
The MusicMakers staff takes a personal interest in matching every student to a teacher. Whereas most places arbitrarily assign teacher to student, we want to get to know our students and match you with the right teacher. This can be done over the phone or email when you inquiry about registering. However, because we know how important
it is for the teacher and student to have a good working relationship,
you are welcome to make an appointment to come in to the Academy for an initial
consultation/evaluation. At this time, we will personally register you,
evaluate your needs, discover your goals, and assign you to an appropriate
teacher. Whether
you decide to have your lessons in your home or our Academy, we will help you along the way to have a positive experience.
Deciding
which is best for you
There are several factors
to think about in making the decision between lessons in your home and
lessons in our Academy. Ask yourself:
- Does my schedule
allow me enough time to travel to and from a lesson?
- Would the student
concentrate better in their own environment or in a professional studio
environment?
- Are there too
many distractions in my home (i.e. siblings, telephone, television,
friends, etc.)?
- How important
is it to me to have access to computers and other musical equipment?
- How important
is it to me to have access to a musical library?
- Do I have enough
room in my home to provide private space for lessons and practice
time?
- Do I feel uncomfortable
with someone entering my home on a weekly basis?
Other factors to
think about:
- As with any
exclusive service, lessons in your home are more expensive than lessons
in a studio.
- When a teacher
comes to your home, you will need to be more flexible about lesson
times and punctuality of teachers due to unforeseen traffic problems,
weather, etc.
- Some students
take lessons more seriously when taken in a studio environment.
- Regarding piano
lessons, there are definite advantages for the student taking lessons
on his or her own instrument.
- There are also
advantages to a teacher being able to see, first-hand, the student's
practicing environment.
Music for Little Mozarts Private Piano Lessons for Children Ages 4-6
Music for Little Mozarts is a private lesson program designed with our youngest students in mind! This method uses a storybook approach, where each page has exciting tales of adventure in music learning with Mozart Mouse, Beethoven Bear, and Puccini Pooch (to name just a few!). Children learn how to read music from the onset, and learn proper technique and repertoire suitable for their ages and small fingers. Since this is a one-on-one lesson, the pace is set by the student who has all of the attention of the teacher. The materials for this program include a wonderful tote bag with these character stuffed animals, dry erase board, flashcards, coloring books, etc to encourage hands-on learning perfect for this age group!
If you are looking for a introduction to piano class, please see our program, "Sound Beginnings". That program is also for children ages 4-6, but in a group setting: a parent/child paired up class which runs during the school year for 30 weeks.
Registration for this program is exactly the same as registering for any other private lesson. You would fill out the private lesson registration forms and we'll take it from there!
